Could entrepreneurship be a non-traditional spiritual awakening?

Could entrepreneurship be a non-traditional spiritual awakening?

You’re given a vision. A download. An idea that lands in your mind like somebody upstairs has slipped you a little cosmic note and gone, "Here. See what you can do with this." 😅

And because apparently I cannot leave a mysterious breadcrumb alone, I follow it.

You start chasing this beacon, trying to pull something that currently only exists inside your imagination into the physical world. At first it is exciting. Sparkly, even. 😂 You can SEE it. The business. The products. The world around it. The people it might reach.

Then life starts handing you the side quests. 😭

The funding doesn’t materialise. People question the vision. Some pull it apart. Some simply cannot see what you see yet. You realise very quickly that enthusiasm does not pay invoices, imagination still needs infrastructure and apparently divine downloads do not arrive with a complimentary accountant. 🤣

And for those who know, KNOW, entrepreneurship can be a brutal road to walk.

Especially when you are self-funding. Building mostly alone. Running a home. Raising a family. Teaching yourself skills you did not even know you would need. Design. Marketing. Writing. Manufacturing. Finance. Negotiation. Photography. Whatever fresh department the business decides to open inside your brain that week. 😭😂

Suddenly you are less a business owner and more a one-woman university with no graduation date.

But somewhere along the way, something else starts happening.

The journey starts working on parts of you that had absolutely nothing to do with your original business plan.

You develop self-trust because eventually there is nobody standing beside you saying, "Yes, this is definitely going to work." You have to decide whether you believe it.

You develop discernment because every shiny opportunity is not necessarily aligned.

You develop resilience because sometimes the door does not just close, it practically slams shut and switches the porch light off. 😭

You learn how attached you are to external validation.

You learn where you shrink.

Where you procrastinate.

Where fear dresses itself up as "being realistic".

Where perfectionism puts on a sensible little blazer and convinces you it is simply protecting the business. 😂

And somewhere inside all of that, you start shedding old versions of yourself.

The people-pleasing.

The need for everybody to understand.

The fear of visibility.

The habit of waiting for permission.

Sometimes even the original picture of what success was supposed to look like.

Maybe that is the awakening.

You follow the idea thinking the whole mission is to bring it to life, then realise the process has been quietly rearranging you too.

Every rejection turns the kaleidoscope slightly.

Every new skill shifts another piece.

Every failure catches the light from a different angle.

And eventually the picture you are building looks richer, stranger and far more layered than the one you were first shown.

The original vision is still there.

It has just picked up some glitter, a few battle scars, several new departments and a very tired founder along the way. 😭🤣

Maybe entrepreneurship really is a kind of initiation.

You are handed the vision.

You follow the beacon.

You fight through the adversaries, including the ones living inside your own head.

And somewhere between trying to build the thing, fund the thing, protect the thing and believe in the thing...

you crack wide open too.
